"CILLIUM": Roman Arch
|
The archeological remains prove today that the city of Kasserine
had witnessed duringthe Roman and Byzantine eras profound developments.
The ruins of thermae, theaters, arches and catacombs all around
water sources and on hills show the vestiges of these two civilizations.
Since those ages, historical sources had not mentioned any event
or fact relating to the eras which followed the Islamic conquest
as if the city had been for times living outside the events
which had left their marks on the country and aloof from the
succeeding powers which had taken the reins of the region. Kasserine
had been shadowed ever since the end of the Byzantine era and
the beginning of the Islamic period and all along the Middle
Ages. Today, there are only Roman and Byzantine ruins left which
characterize the western central region like all other parts
of Tunisia.
